by Thomas Perle –– Direction: András Dömötör
Producer: Deutsches Theater Berlin (DE)
Three women from the same side of the Carpathian Mountains, belonging to different generations, meet in Thomas Perle's performance, winner of the 2019 austrian Retzhofer Drama Prize: daughter, mother and grandmother. In different languages and dialects, they recount their German-Austrian-Hungarian-Romanian destinies, which are embedded in political altercations and stories characterized by violence over the past centuries. In a succinct and precise dialogue, Perle covers the entire historical period from German immigration during the 18th century to national socialism, the fall of Ceausescu and the longing for a different life in the West. Even the mountains and forests have their say.
