The inauguration of the Grand Hall
Occasioned by the completion of renovation works, the Grand Hall of the German State Theatre in Timişoara and Csiky Gergely Hungarian State Theatre will open in a festive event on Wednesday, march 4th, starting from 6.30 p.m.During the summer of 2008, thanks to the support we received from the City Hall, the financial benefactor of the Hungarian and German theatres, we completed the renovation of the shared Grand Hall, providing it with modern acoustic insulation, and we replaced the seats in the performance hall with platforms, comprising 126 seats in variable modules. We modernized the lighting and sound technique by installing sound mixers and a new stroboscope, floodlights, and motorized rods. The Grand Hall, 134 years old, now has a new appearance, in a chromatic harmony of light blue and golden hues, and is ready for inauguration, to the delight of Thalia's servants and theatre lovers in Timişoara.The festive ceremony will be honoured by the presence of the Mayor of Timişoara, His Excellency Füzes Oszkár, the ambassador of the Hungarian Republic in Bucharest, German Vice-consul Uwe Zorn, as well as many other guests from Timişoara.After the inauguration, two festive performances will be staged from 7 p.m.: the audience in the Grand Hall will be able to see the show Woyzeck by Georg Büchner, a production of the German State Theatre in Timişoara, and the Studio Hall will host the show The Time Will Soon Come, by Line Knutzon, a production of the Csiky Gergely Hungarian State Theatre.
