Musicals, Stories for Children and Great Works of World Literature: November Programme at GSTT

The German State Theatre Timișoara (GSTT) presents a November 2026 programme that brings together musicals, theatre for children and teenagers, stage adaptations of major works of world literature, and contemporary drama.

Audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy a diverse programme combining musicals and theatre for younger spectators with stage adaptations of important literary works and contemporary plays. From stories full of humour, music and energy to performances exploring the complexity of human relationships, the mechanisms of power, the quest for freedom and the challenges of adolescence, November’s repertoire offers a variety of theatrical experiences for different audiences.

The month opens with two performances of the musical “Sister Act”, scheduled for Tuesday, 3 November, and Wednesday, 4 November, both at 7:30 p.m. Featuring music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and direction, choreography and costumes by Răzvan Mazilu, the production offers a vibrant theatrical experience in which music, dance and comedy come together. The show is recommended for audiences aged 16 and over.

On Sunday, 8 November, the theatre welcomes its youngest audiences with two performances of “The Jungle Book”, based on the work by Rudyard Kipling, directed and choreographed by Răzvan Mazilu. The performances are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and are recommended for children aged 6 and over.

During the same month, TGST continues its presence on Romania’s national theatre circuit. On Thursday, 12 November, at 7:00 p.m., “Penthesilea. A Requiem”, by Nino Haratischwili and directed by Eberhard Köhler, will be performed as part of the 12th edition of the Interethnic Theatre Festival in Oradea. The participation offers an opportunity to connect with audiences at a major event dedicated to cultural and theatrical diversity.

The programme continues on Sunday, 15 November, at 7:30 p.m. with “The Magic Mountain”, a stage adaptation of Thomas Mann’s novel, adapted and directed by Clemens Bechtel. The production brings to the stage the world of one of the great novels of European literature and is recommended for audiences aged 13 and over.

On Friday, 20 November, at 8:30 p.m., audiences are invited to see “The Dragon”, by Evgeny Schwarz, directed by Yuri Kordonsky. Through a story blending fantasy and allegory, the production invites reflection on power and the mechanisms through which it can come to control individuals and entire communities.

The final part of the month brings two contemporary productions to the forefront. On Tuesday, 24 November, at 7:30 p.m., “TSCHICK. Why We Took the Car”, based on the novel by Wolfgang Herrndorf and directed by Irisz Kovacs, invites audiences into a story about adolescence, freedom and discovering a world beyond the conventions of everyday life. The performance will be followed by a discussion with the audience.

The month’s programme concludes on Thursday, 26 November, at 7:30 p.m. with “Love Money”, by Daniel Glattauer, directed by Irisz Kovacs. The production explores human relationships and the tensions that arise at the intersection of emotions, material interests and personal expectations.

With a repertoire spanning different genres and theatrical forms, the November programme reflects the German State Theatre Timișoara’s commitment to bringing together classical and contemporary texts, diverse artistic approaches and audiences of all kinds.

Performances presented on the GSTT stage are surtitled in Romanian and English, with the exception of productions for children, which are translated into Romanian only. Age recommendations and specific information about each performance are available on the theatre’s website.
