The German State Theatre Timișoara is hosting, at the beginning of September, an important production from the repertoire of the Ioan Slavici Classical Theatre Arad – the performance Before the Flood or As Long As We’re Healthy, an adaptation after the Presnyakov brothers, directed by Alexandru Ianăși.
The event will take place on Saturday, September 13, at 7:00 p.m. The staging explores the fragility of human values in an era dominated by fake news and superficiality.
“The staging, signed by the young director Alexandru Ianăși, recently awarded the UNITER prize for Best Debut, is a reflection on a world in which vulnerabilities of all kinds are increasingly gaining ground over objective reality. We often watch, indifferent, unaware, or powerless, as the value foundations of humanity weaken, as competence fades away, as devastating waves of fake news take over. What would the end of the world look like in the age of brainrot? Even if it may seem frightening, you will find at least one answer to this question in this performance,” emphasizes Bogdan Costea, manager of the Ioan Slavici Classical Theatre Arad.
The performance will be followed by a debate with the audience, featuring specialists from the Department of Sociology within the Faculty of Sociology and Psychology of the West University of Timișoara.
“The debate is part of a long-term partnership we have established with the Faculty of Sociology and Psychology at UVT. In this way, we facilitate a different kind of dialogue between the public and the theatre, a different way of deciphering, this time with the help of sociology experts, the message of a performance,” adds Bogdan Costea.
The artistic team includes Daria Ancuța (dramaturgy), Irina Chirilă (set and costumes), Laurian Popa (video graphics), Dan Varga (video editing), Robert Găgeată (soundscape), Raw Creatives (sound design), and Sergiu Poenar (lighting design). The cast features Andrei Elek, Ștefan Dogaru, Roxana Sabău, Alex Popa, Calița Nantu, Ioana Cheregi, Medeea Chiriac, Carmen Vlaga Bogdan, Tudor Jula, Robert Pavicsits, Ștefan Statnic, Alina Vasiljević, and Angela Petrean Varjasi.
