The German State Theatre Timișoara announces the completion of the “Impuls Theatre” project, a substantial initiative dedicated to fostering dialogue between art and education, carried out in Timiș County and aimed at students and teachers from several educational institutions. The project sought to bring young people closer to the world of theatre and to stimulate their capacity for analysis, participation, and artistic expression.
As part of the “Impuls Theatre” project, the team of the German State Theatre Timișoara visited nine educational institutions in Timiș County: “Nikolaus Lenau” Theoretical High School Timișoara, “David Voniga” Theoretical High School Giroc, Montessori High School Timișoara, Babel High School Timișoara, the Fine Arts High School Timișoara, “Nestor Oprean” Secondary School No. 2 Sânnicolau Mare, “Anișoara Odeanu” Secondary School Lugoj, “William Shakespeare” Theoretical High School Timișoara, and the Bănățean National College.
Throughout the meetings held in schools, the GSTT team worked directly with students and teachers, creating an authentic space for dialogue and discovery. The interactive workshops, discussions on theatre art, and age-adapted presentations generated enthusiasm, curiosity, and active involvement. Teachers appreciated the openness and educational value of the project, while students stood out through their receptiveness, creativity, and eagerness to explore further.
Within the project, students watched three productions from the repertoire of the German State Theatre Timișoara: The Dragon by Evgeny Schwartz, directed by Yuri Kordonsky; Sidy Thal by Thomas Perle and Clemens Bechtel, directed by Clemens Bechtel; and Humans. For Sale, written and directed by Carmen Lidia Vidu. The spectator experience was enriched by three brochures dedicated to each performance, produced especially for the project — a national premiere. These materials offered valuable information on theatre theory, historical and aesthetic contexts, as well as analytical tools that support a deeper understanding of the performing arts.
The project also benefited from the direct involvement of GSTT ensemble members. The meetings with students were attended by actresses Oana Vidoni, Isa Berger, and Alma Diaconu; actors Harald Weisz, Alex Mihăescu, Ovidiu Zimcea, Boris Gaza, and Richard Hladik; literary secretary Mira Țâra; writer Cristian Vicol; as well as theatre scholars Diana Katharina and Daniela Șilindrean. They actively facilitated the meetings, encouraging dialogue with students, sharing their professional experience, and creating genuine connections between the stage and the educational environment. The project was coordinated by Diana Sârbu and Sarah Malekshahian.
The impact of the project is visible both in the immediate reactions of participants and in the long-term openness created between theatre and school. The most significant gain of “Impuls Theatre” remains the intangible one: the strengthening of a lasting relationship between cultural and educational institutions, the cultivation of artistic sensitivity among young people, and the formation of a curious, informed audience open to cultural dialogue.
The German State Theatre Timișoara extends its gratitude to all participating schools, students, and teachers who transformed the meetings of this project into moments of genuine inspiration and shared growth.
“Impuls Theatre” reaffirms GSTT’s commitment to supporting education through culture and to continuing the development of projects that bring theatre closer to young people — where future generations of spectators, artists, and engaged citizens take shape.
“Impuls Theatre” was co-financed by the Timiș County Council through the “TimCultura 2025” programme.
