The German State Theatre Timișoara (GSTT) opens the 2026/2027 season with a programme bringing together productions from the theatre’s current repertoire, its latest premiere, as well as shows aimed at different audiences. At the same time, GSTT continues the „Theatre in Dialogue” project, a cultural mediation programme designed for middle and high school students. The German State Theatre Timișoara opens the 2026/2027 season on September 18, 2026, with the musical “Sister Act,” featuring music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater, directed and choreographed by Răzvan Mazilu, who also designed the costumes. The production will have two performances in September, on September 18 and 19, at 7:30 p.m., in the German State Theatre auditorium. We are delighted by the strong interest from the audience, with both performances already sold out. The performance is recommended for audiences aged 16 and over and is surtitled in Romanian and English.
The month’s programme continues with “Love Money,” by Daniel Glattauer, directed by Irisz Kovacs, the German State Theatre Timișoara’s latest premiere. Premiered in June 2026, the production explores the relationship between love, money, and the dynamics of a couple. The September performance is scheduled for Sunday, September 20, at 7:30 p.m., in the German State Theatre auditorium. The performance is recommended for audiences aged 12 and over and is surtitled in Romanian and English.
On September 26 and 27, the GSTT programme includes “Drama Night 1” (The Politicians, German Song Night, Laios) and “Drama Night 2” (canned meat, German Song Night, Liebe), a project conceived and coordinated by Irisz Kovacs and Clemens Bechtel. The two performances will take place at the future Atelier Hall of the German State Theatre, located at 2 Cuvin Street, starting at 7:30 p.m. The two evenings of performances will take place in a new meeting place between the German Theatre and the Timișoara audience – the future „Atelier Hall” of the German State Theatre, located at 2 Cuvin Street, starting at 7:30 p.m. “Drama Night 1” is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, while “Drama Night 2” will take place on Sunday, September 27. The September programme comes to an end with a production for children, perfect for those looking to supplement their summer reading: “Heidi,” based on the novel by Johanna Spyri, directed by Petra Rațiu, with a stage adaptation by Thomas Birkmeir. The performance will take place on Wednesday, September 30, at 11:00 a.m., at the German State Theatre Timișoara. The production is recommended for children aged 6 and over and is performed in Romanian.
At the same time, GSTT’s “Theatre in Dialogue” project returns with new encounters, ideas and opportunities for dialogue, continuing its mission of bringing theatre closer to younger audiences and creating spaces for conversation, reflection and the exchange of perspectives. The project is co-funded by the Romanian National Cultural Fund Administration (AFCN).
Through its September programme, the German State Theatre Timișoara marks the beginning of a new season with a selection of productions reflecting the diversity of the institution’s repertoire and its commitment to reaching different audiences. From musicals and contemporary theatre to performances for children and projects presented in alternative spaces, the 2026/2027 season proposes new encounters between artists and audiences, continuing the artistic and repertory directions of the German State Theatre Timișoara.
