“The Tricked Wolf,” the GSTT pocket theatre production, has reached the classrooms of the “Nikolaus Lenau” High School

The German State Theatre Timișoara (GSTT) presented the premiere of “The Tricked Wolf” on Thursday, 15 October 2026. This pocket theatre production, inspired by a traditional folk tale from Transylvania, was created especially for children learning German.

The performance took place in the classrooms of “Nikolaus Lenau” Theoretical High School in Timișoara, where two performances were held. Through this format, GSTT aims to bring theatre closer to children, transforming the familiar school environment into a space for storytelling, play and discovery.

The children warmly embraced the performance, laughing at the wolf’s misadventures and getting caught up in the story. Their enthusiastic reactions made both performances lively and joyful experiences, once again showing that theatre can find its place in the classroom, too.

At the heart of the performance are two fairies, Fimi and Sibi, played by Enikő Blénessy and Aida Olaru, who disagree about the wolf’s role just before the story begins. Once they settle their differences, the adventure of a hungry wolf unfolds as he sets out to catch some animals. However, the foal, the ducks, the piglets and the other characters prove to be cleverer than he is and manage to outwit him every time with a few well-chosen words and clever tricks.

The stage adaptation is by Enikő Blénessy, with Clemens Bechtel coordinating the project. Lasting approximately 35 minutes, the performance is recommended for children aged 3 and above.

With “The Tricked Wolf” the German State Theatre Timișoara continues to develop educational projects that combine artistic experiences with German language learning, giving children the opportunity to discover theatre in an accessible format tailored to their age.

In 2026, the project received funding from Hungary’s Ministry of Culture and Innovation and was developed through a collaboration between the German State Theatre Timișoara, Deutsche Bühne Ungarn in Szekszárd and the “Radu Stanca” National Theatre in Sibiu.

The next performances are scheduled for Friday, 23 October 2026, at 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM, at “Nikolaus Lenau” Theoretical High School in Timișoara.
