The German State Theatre Timișoara is preparing for one of the most spectacular titles of the season, the musical “Sister Act”, a large-scale production filled with color, music, and impressive choreography. The show is directed, choreographed, and costumed by Răzvan Mazilu, who proposes a dynamic staging with a strong focus on rhythm, physical expressiveness, and stage energy.
The premiere will take place on March 14, 2026, at 7:30 PM, followed by two additional performances on March 16 and March 17, 2026, at the same time, on the theatre’s stage.
Based on the famous 1992 film and later adapted into an internationally successful musical, “Sister Act” tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a charismatic nightclub singer who witnesses a crime and is hidden by the police in a convent. Under the identity of Sister Mary Clarence, Deloris discovers a world completely different from the one she knows — but also the opportunity to create a radical change.
Through the power of music and her explosive personality, she transforms the convent’s insecure choir into a true musical phenomenon, triggering a series of comic, emotional, and surprising situations.
The show brings to the stage the music of Alan Menken (multiple Academy Award winner, known for creations such as “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Aladdin”) and the lyrics by Glenn Slater, in an irresistible blend of gospel, disco, and soul.
The cast includes: Daniela Török, Dana Borteanu, Isa Berger, Alma Diaconu, Oana Vidoni, Bülent Özdil, Harald Weisz, Marc Illich, Radu Vulpe, Robert Bogdanov-Schein, Denis Matei, Richard Hladik, Enikő Blénessy, Tatiana Sessler-Toami, Daniel Ghidel, Aida Olaru and Simona Vintilă.
The production also features actresses Noémi Becsey-Imreh, Emília B. Borbély, Edina Foltányi, Etelka Magyari, and Mónika Tar, invited from the Hungarian State Theatre “Csiky Gergely” Timișoara.
The set design is created by Vlad Vieru, dramaturgy is signed by Mira Țâra, lighting design by Costi Baciu, musical preparation coordinated by Roxana Ardeleanu, stage speech by Marc Illich, and makeup by Bojita Ilici. The team also includes Simona Vintilă and Franz Kattesch as assistant directors, Alexandru Pîntea as assistant choreographer, Zsolt Fehérvári as set design assistant, and Cătălin Tănase in charge of technical direction.
Get ready to laugh, sing, and give a standing ovation, because “Sister Act” brings the magic of Broadway directly to the stage of the German State Theatre!
