"The Mirror" tells the story of a dying man (Alexei), who remembers his childhood and youth, reflecting on his relationships with his parents and his first love. The narrative does not follow dramatic action in the classical sense, but is an associative flow of thoughts. Tarkovsky combines elements of individual memory with collective history. This autobiographical work frees itself from the conventions of narrative cinema, replacing the linear story with a free alternation of different temporal planes.
