The German State Theatre Timișoara (GSTT) is launching a new project for its youngest audiences at the beginning of the 2026/2027 season: “The Tricked Wolf”, a pocket theatre performance inspired by a traditional folk tale from Transylvania. Designed for children learning German, the performance brings theatre closer to them by being presented directly in kindergartens and primary schools.
The premiere will take place on 15 October 2026, at 9:00 a.m., in the primary school classes of the “Nikolaus Lenau” High School in Timișoara, followed by a second performance at 11:00 a.m. On 23 October, at 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., two further encounters with the audience will take place, this time in the preparatory classes of the same educational institution.
The stage adaptation is created by Enikő Blénessy, in collaboration with Deutsche Bühne Ungarn in Szekszárd and the German Section of the “Radu Stanca” National Theatre in Sibiu. The project is artistically coordinated by Clemens Bechtel, director and artistic director of the German State Theatre Timișoara.
At the heart of the story are two fairies, Fimi (Enikő Blénessy) and Sibi (Aida Olaru), best friends who find themselves arguing just before the performance is about to begin: who will play the wolf? Once this dilemma is settled, the story can begin.

The wolf is hungry and sets off in search of animals to catch and eat. A foal, some ducks, little piglets and other animals cross his path. But his would-be victims turn out to be cleverer than he expected. With the help of flattering words and a few little tricks, the animals manage to outwit him every time and escape his clutches.
Clemens Bechtel shared the following thoughts on the moral of the story: “The Outwitted Wolf is a story about someone who thinks they can do everything. And because they are so preoccupied with proving to the whole world that they are the greatest and that they can do anything, they ultimately end up being a nobody.”
In this adventure, the children are not merely spectators. They are invited to take part in the unfolding of the story, to react, help the characters and discover German words and expressions through play.
Through music, dance, humour and direct interaction with the audience, “The Outwitted Wolf” transforms the encounter with theatre into an accessible and playful experience. The performance is designed to give children the opportunity to engage with the German language in an informal setting, where learning happens naturally through play and participation.

The project is part of the German State Theatre Timișoara’s ongoing efforts to develop new forms of encounter between theatre, education and very young audiences, bringing performances and the theatrical experience as close as possible to children.
“The Outwitted Wolf” runs for approximately 35 minutes and is aimed at preschool and school-age children.
